Pacing in the Courtyard

I’ve spent a good amount of Chicago-filled time these past few months.

And the fast pace still feeds the needs of my restless feet.

But there is more that this smog- and fog-filled city has to offer

than trains over and underground

and Big Wig tacos

and expensive corporate office views of Lake Michigan.

It’s been too long since I’ve enjoyed the simple pleasure, but the memory remains salient:

pacing in a friend’s courtyard, amidst trees and strangers and neighbors,

walking for hours and making no headway except depth of friendship.

Riches, indeed.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!” Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
