Midnight Trains & Factory Lights
The day after Christmas I jumped in my car and headed west.
I turned the key and left the boundaries of the city which currently holds my “Change of Address” forms.
It wasn’t long before night fell and darkness overtook the highway.
Not too many travelers heading west with me and snow-filled clouds blocked any light the waning moon had to offer.
It was dark, but I wasn’t tired yet.
So I drove through cities and mountain ranges I have yet to see in the light of day.
And as midnight turned over and the day after Christmas became “yesterday,” I found my eyes drawn to any light that appeared.
The three headlights of trains running east to west
and brightly lit factories stood out against the blackness of night.
They seem like such antiquated notions to my iPhone infiltrated world, but there they were, proving me wrong.
And lighting my way on the highway.
On the shoulders of yesterday’s ideas do we today build recycled inventions.
What a blessing to get to participate in what our generations do with the materials before us.
“Is there a thing of which it is said, “See, this is new”? It has been already in the ages before us.” Ecclesiastes 1:10
