On the Up and Up
The shortest day of the year was December 21.
Obvi that’s a misnomer since every day has the same ol’ twenty-four hours in it.
But that’s what we call the day with the least amount of, well, day.
That’s the day where the sun comes up the latest and sets the earliest.
And for me, it’s always an exciting day.
Because it means we’ve crested the hilltop.
We’ve passed the darkest hour.
We’re on the up and up.
It’s all downhill from there.
Things are looking up.
Each day until the middle of June we’re looking at more and more, er, “day” in our days.
There is a dependability to the rhythm of the seasons and I like to think we can shift and adjust to its song.
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
